Each year in Louisville, Kentucky, the city hosts Worldfest, an event that celebrates cultures from around the the world. Georgetta Duncan created a film, ‘Our America’, as a project in Landmark Education’s team management and leadership program to document the festival and to celebrate these immigrants and their cultures.
Over a million people immigrate to America in search of a better live. Duncan, who was herself born in Bulgaria, felt compelled to capture the various stories of the festival attendees. Duncan’s program shows festival officials introducing the festival, which features attendees from more than 90 different countries.
Duncan interviews dozens of different attendees from a wide range of the 90+ countries, and has them speak on a range of different issues. One interviewee speaks about how sometimes Americans’ view of immigrants is to be threatened, perhaps for their jobs, and he speaks about the opportunity that is there to learn from immigrants.
She interviews attendees from Japan, Iran, Greece, Kenya, Bosnia, Barbados, Bulgaria and many other places while celebrating the festival’s friendly atmosphere – one immigrant (from 1973) shows Duncan the finer points of eating sushi. For more films like this one, visit http://teamleadership.org, which tells about many different projects created in Landmark’s Team Management and Leadership program (called ‘team games in the word’, for how they focus on teamwork and making a difference in society at large), many of which feature interesting videos. There are also parts two and three of Duncan’s film there, which veer away from the Louisville festival, and show scenes filmed in Europe.
